The weather on the Sunshine Coast is spectacular most of the time, but when it rains it pours. But there’s no need to let a bit of wet weather dampen your holiday spirits, there is still plenty to do on the Sunshine Coast to keep everyone entertained when the weather turns sour. Here’s our Top 10 list of things to do on the Sunshine Coast on a rainy day, in no particular order:
1. Underwater World
Always a favourite, Underwater World never fails to delight. The otters are adorable and the seal show’s great fun. With their recent renovations, Underwater World is even better for getting up close to the creatures of the deep.
2. Sunshine Coast Libraries
There are plenty of great public libraries on the Sunshine Coast so you can get lost in a new adventure, have a holiday romance or learn something new without leaving your chair. Got kids? Check out the library website for story and craft times for the little ones, games to play and music to listen to.
3. Art Galleries
The Sunshine Coast is home to fascinating artists of all kinds and many interesting art galleries. There are the big ones like Noosa Regional Art Gallery and Caloundra Regional Art Gallery, but also many stunning smaller galleries across the region. Take a drive to the Hinterland to check out some of the galleries there or take the official Art Gallery Trail to visit some fantastic home studios.
The Sunshine Coast isn’t known for its museums but the Queensland Air Museum in Caloundra is great for plane enthusiasts and we love the Eumundi Museum where you can learn about the history of the Sunshine Coast region.
There are great places to shop all over the Sunshine Coast but you can start in Noosa for fabulous boutiques, check out the Sunshine Plaza in Maroochydore for big chain and department stores and hit Peregian Beach for a quirky mix of coastal stores. Stop at a cafe for coffee and a snack, before heading home to look at all of your new purchases.
6. Indoor Playcentres
If you have little people an indoor play centre can be a sanity saver during wet weather. They get to run until they drop, while you get to relax with refreshments and watch them have fun and make new friends.
7. Roller Skating or Ice Skating
The Rollerdome in Caloundra will keep you active and dry and it even becomes an ice rink during summer for cool indoor fun.
8. Sunshine Castle
The Sunshine Castle in Bli Bli is one of a kind and sure to keep your little prince or princess happy. A real medieval castle on the Sunshine Coast, with armour & costumes from the era. There’s also a great doll display which little girls love. When you’ve finished exploring try the cafe for refreshments.
9. Water Play
Wet weather doesn’t always have to mean indoor activities. You’ll be getting wet anyway, so watery fun can still be on the agenda. Whether it’s the beach, the pool or wake-boarding at the water ski park there’s always countless ways to have fun in the water on the Sunshine Coast.
10. Noosa Tenpin Bowling and LaserTag
We might be a bit biased so come along and experience the fun times for all ages at Noosa’s Tenpin Bowling alleys and our new LaserTag arena for yourself. The kids will work off some of that pent up energy and our venue is warm and dry so adults can curl on the sofa with a coffee and order pizzas, hot chips or nachos all round if you want to stay a bit longer.
